Despite the high demand for Russian sunflower oil from foreign markets and the rising price for the oil, there are no prerequisites for concern in the Russian domestic market. Russian agricultural holdings note that there can be no shortage of sunflower oil in the domestic market since the country has had enough sunflower oil reserves since last year, and the production capacity of oil mills in the country is excessive. In 2021, sunflower acreage in Russia increased by 14% compared to 2020; oil production increased by 23.4% compared to 2016–2020. In Russia, self-sufficiency in sunflower oil is more than 196%, almost twice as high as domestic needs.
