Despite the rush demand for Russian sunflower oil from foreign markets and the wild rise in prices for the oil itself, there are no prerequisites for concern on the Russian domestic market. Russian agricultural holdings note that there can be no shortage of sunflower oil in the domestic market, since the country has enough sunflower oil reserves since last year, and the production capacity of oil mills in the country is excessive. In 2021, sunflower acreage in Russia increased by 14% compared to 2020, oil production increased by 23.4% compared to 2016–2020. Self-sufficiency in this product in Russia is more than 196%, almost twice as high as domestic needs.
