Shortage of Tilapia in Taiwan due to Covid-19

Taiwan exports tilapia and tilapia fillet. Tilapia requires around 12 months before it can be sold as whole round or processed as a fillet. Tilapia farmers in Taiwan decided to reduce tilapia in 2020 due to the worldwide COVID-19 situation, thus the output has reduced in 2021. The demand coming from the market is strong as tilapia is relatively an affordable seafood, causing a shortage in raw materials. The local processors/exporters are not taking new overseas buyers as they can not even fulfill the demand from existing buyers.
