In the past 24 seasons, the North region of Santa Fe has averaged around 2K hectares dedicated to sorghum over a historical average total producing area of 55K hectares. The historical zonal yield is at 4050 kg/ha. After several years of lack of interest, in the 2020/21 campaign, the planting intention will grow significantly in line with the possibility of capturing prices of up to U$D 180 / ton with delivery in Rosario. But not only price matters, among the variables being analyzed, are the adaptability of the crop to low fertility, saline and flooded soils, lower production risks under adverse weather conditions (in a probable “Niña” phase scenario), and greater soil moisture absorption capacity and greater efficiency in its use. The sowing dates carried out in the area range from the second half of September to the first days of December for first-class sorghums. The December date, in general, is for second-rate sowing dates on oats and/or wheat, while January and February for third-rate sorghum on sunflower lots.
