Tanzanian Pigeon Pea Prices Remain Low Due to Sustained Low Prices in Indian Market

Pigeon pea prices in Tanzania remain low in both the domestic market and export market to India which is the dependent market for pulses in the country. Mtwara origin pigeon peas are heading towards the end of their production season, giving way for Arusha origin crop, which is trading at USD 0.56/kg EXW Dar es Salaam in W38. This price is relatively high for the Indian market which is trading at USD 0.60-0.62/kg, leaving little room for freight costs and profit margins for exports to India.
