The average selling price of fresh longan in May 2023 was approximately 42.80% higher compared to May 2022. In May 2022, the average selling price at Jiang Nan Market in Guangzhou, China, was around USD 1.91/Kg (RMB 13.68/Kg). However, in May 2023, the price increased to USD 2.73/Kg (RMB 19.54/Kg). This price surge can be attributed to the increased cost of fertilizers, which was a result of the Russia-Ukraine war. Since the raw materials required for fruit fertilizers are mostly imported from these two countries, the conflict led to higher fertilizer prices.
