To rejuvenate the seaweed industry and to support the improvement of production output of seaweed in the East Nusa Tenggara province, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fishery has recently distributed around 17 MT of seaweed seed to around 27 farmers association across this province. This effort was made as East Nusa Tenggara province has long been known as one of the biggest producing regions of seaweed in Indonesia, with around 2300 hectare of total area available for the production of seaweed. It is expected that this effort would be able to bump up the production output from the annual volume of around 11 KMT to around 14 KMT in 2021.
