Aceh regency in the northern part of Sumatra is entering the harvest period of a local variety of avocado called alpukat mentega (butter avocado). The harvest season was started earlier this week and it is expected to last until the middle of October 2020. The local farmers mentioned that there are around 200 ha of plantations land in several regencies in the province and the production output is expected to be around 4 MT/hectare of land. The farmers mentioned that the harvest season this year has the potential to be the biggest one in the past 3 years. Around 70% of the total production output of the harvested avocado would be distributed to the local consumers in Sumatra, as well as to the provinces in the neighboring island such as West Java and Jakarta, while the rest of it is allocated to be sold to prospective buyers overseas.
