The plantain production this season in Ecuador has dropped by approximately 60%. The climate conditions in Los Rios and Guayas, the main plantain productive regions, remain unfavorable due to cold temperatures plus a lack of sun and rain. The current harvest produces mostly small plantain fingers of low quality.
