The tilapia farming sector has declined by 35% in the last 8 years, due to climate-induced challenges. There is a considerable threat not only to the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen but also to the country’s food security. Fishermen chose to seek assistance from different non-governmental associations to provide innovative knowledge and technical services and products to farmers in order to increase the resilience of the tilapia farming sector to climate or weather risks. Currently, because of the recent typhoon that struck the country, suppliers are struggling to produce enough tilapia in certain regions. Just this year 2020, there is a decline of 20% already because of the unforeseen weather changes. Still, they are hoping that they would be able to produce enough until the end of this year, both for selling domestically and internationally.
