Turkey overtakes Europe in honey consumption

Turkey is the second-largest honey producer in the world after China. However, there was a slowdown in honey production due to the pandemic and forest fires that ravaged all southern provinces. Despite these, honey production continued to increase, and honey consumption increased in the same parallel. While honey consumption in Turkey has been growing for the last ten years, according to the data announced, honey consumption is more than the average of European Union countries, around 5-7 kg per person. Also, honey food consumption is a part of the culture in the regions where beekeeping is developed.
