In recent years, Vietnam-Iran trade turnover has only reached over USD 100 million, a modest figure considering Iran's consumption potential. Iran presents a large consumption market for agricultural products, particularly Vietnam's catfish, given its population of nearly 90 million, ranking 17th in the world. Although not among the top five export markets like China-Hong Kong, the United States (US), the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the European Union (EU), and Brazil, catfish exports to Iran surged threefold in Apr-24 compared to the same period last year. Specifically, catfish exports reached USD 700 thousand in Apr-24, the highest since Sep-22. In the Jan-24 to Apr-24, catfish exports to Iran exceeded USD 1.2 million, a 17% year-over-year (YoY) increase.
