With growth of 14%, Paraná expands leadership in tilapia production in Brazil

The state of Paraná follows and has expanded the Brazilian leadership in the production of tilapia. Last year the production was 166 thousand tons, an increase of 14% in relation to 2019. According to the Brazilian Association of Pisciculture, six out of ten fish grown in Brazil are tilapia, placing the country as the fourth-largest producer in the world. Tilapia was responsible for 88.17% of Brazilian fish exports, with fresh and chilled fillets being the main product with 45.13% of the total, followed by oils and fats (18.13% and frozen whole fish (15.01% ). The main buyers of Brazilian tilapia were the United States, Chile, China, and Japan.
