Pakistani chickpea price has surged by +54.75% YoY to USD 1.19/kg in W1 May-22. Russia and US are the major exporters of chickpea to Pakistan. The ongoing war between Russia - Ukraine disrupted the supply chain of chickpeas while the US chickpea production in MY 2021/22 is expected to decrease by -30% YoY due to drought. The supply shortage of chickpea in the global market also affects Pakistani chickpea prices to surge.
