In the first quarter of 2024, Singapore saw a significant increase in rice imports, with the total value rising by 23.86% to nearly 1.1 million SGD. Vietnam emerged as the leading rice exporter to Singapore, contributing 32.03% to the market, followed by India and Thailand. Vietnam's rice exports to Singapore experienced a notable growth, reaching a turnover of 36.15 million SGD, driven by the demand for sticky rice, milled or peeled fragrant rice, and broken rice. To maintain and grow its market share, the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore suggested that Vietnamese businesses need to enhance their product quality and competitiveness, as well as boost trade promotion efforts. This includes signing a rice Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Vietnam and Singapore to ensure the sustained dominance of Vietnamese rice products in the Singapore market.
