2020 is recorded as US history in exporting pork on a large scale overseas. This is due to significant demand from China since the country needed to adjust consumption after the ASF outbreak. The volume of pork exports shipped by the US on a monthly basis remained volatile. However, significant gains in mid-year were seen in Japan, Mexico and the Philippines. In contrast to that, Chinese demand has declined far from the middle of last year. This is presumably due to falling domestic prices, which makes China reluctant to buy imported pork. So the country decided to stabilize pork production and prices first, before it could continue to import overseas.
