Product Description

The Argentine Sea is part of the 14th Large Marine Ecosystems (LME) in the South Western Atlantic region and covers a total of 6,581,500 square kilometers of the marine platform, including coastal areas, continental shelves, slopes, and ocean basins. The sea is home to two major marine currents, the Malvinas current, which is cold and nutrient-rich, and the Brazil current, which is warm and moves southwards along the edge of the slope. Between the latitudes of 30° to 46° S, different oceanographic processes result in high biological production and abundant fisheries. Argentina has the 23rd largest fishery in the world in terms of volume, with only 4.5% of its total production related to aquaculture, making it a significant source of natural fishing products. The country's primary fishing activities are based on coldwater demersal species, providing an ideal environment for hake fishing. Surprisingly, only 10% of Argentine seafood is consumed in the domestic market.
Tridge has developed resilient partnerships with the most trustworthy Argentine suppliers from the Mar Del Plata region, allowing buyers to access better opportunities for HGT (head gut tail) products and hake fillets (skin on or off) in our trading ecosystem.

Tridge's Hake From Argentina

Tridge only deals with wild-caught stock, ensuring that no additives or medications are given to the animals, resulting in a natural and high-quality product for the market. Hake, which is a type of fish (Merluccius hubbsi), is found in the platforms of several countries including Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and the Falkland Islands. The species is distributed from Cabo Frio in Brazil (at 23ºS) all the way to the southern end of the American continent at Cape Horn (55ºS), covering the entire hake fishery area.

Catching Area & Fishing Season

ZONE FAO 41 is the area where all hake fishing takes place and is accredited as such. However, there is no fixed high season for hake in Argentina. The fish migrate, so their availability may vary, sometimes appearing earlier than the general peak season or with delays in other cases, depending on the fishing latitude. According to the average declared catches from 2017 to 2019, Argentine Hake (Merluccius hubbsi) is abundant from February until November, although small amounts are available throughout the year.
