Argentina

We have developed resilient memberships with the most trustworthy Argentine sources from Mar Del Plata region, allowing buyers to access better opportunities for hake fillet (skin on or off) and HGT products in our trading ecosystem.

Key Facts of Our Supply Source

The Argentine Sea belongs to Large Marine Ecosystems (LME) 14 of South Western Atlantic and comprises coastal environments, continental shelf, slope, and ocean basins, covering 6,581,500 km2 of the marine platform. Two major marine currents coexist, first the cold Malvinas current and the second the warm Brazil current. The former, rich in nutrients, is generated from the Antarctic Circum-polar current, whereas the later moves southwards along the edge of the slope. In the transition zone (from 30° to 46° S), different oceanographic processes allow a high biological production and granting fisheries a plentiful supply. Being the 23rd largest fishery in the world in terms of volume and with only 4.5% of its total production to be related to aquaculture, Argentina becomes a prominent source for natural fishing products. Country’s catching activities are based primarily on cold-water demersal species; hence it allows the perfect scenario for the hake fish supply. One interesting fact is that only 10% of Argentine seafood is destined for the domestic market.

As we refer to a wild-caught stock it means Tridge deals with no additive or applied medicines to the animals, granting the market with the best product in natura. Hake (Merluccius hubbsi) inhabits the platforms of Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and the Falkland Islands. Its distribution extends from Cabo Frio in Brazil (23ºS), until the Cape Horn, at the southern end of the American continent (55ºS), comprehending the whole hake fishery area.

Catching Area & Fishing Season

As an accredited area, ZONE FAO 41 is basically from where all the hake fishing takes place, however In the case of Hake in general, in Argentina, there is no fixed high season. Fish migrate so it might be available earlier than the general season peak or with some delays in other cases. Different fishing latitudes also mean early or latter appearances. Based on statistics average from 2017, 2018 and 2019 declared catches, we could say that Argentine Hake (Merluccius hubbsi) is plenty from February until November, but small amounts are available all year.
