Onion is one of the biggest crops harvested in Pakistan that has such high demand in both the local and international markets. Pakistani onion is drier compared to onion produced by other countries and has a longer shelf life, and that is why it is considered as one of the top-quality onions worldwide.

Pakistan is the second biggest onion producer and exporter from the South Asian sub-continent and is the eighth largest onion producing nation worldwide with an annual export volume of more than 300,000 MT approximately.

Onion is grown in all the provinces in Pakistan in varying volumes and with different harvesting periods. This ensures the availability of onion throughout the year for both local consumption and export purposes. As far as the growing regions are concerned, Sindh is the largest producer of Onion in Pakistan followed by Balochistan, Punjab, and KPK.
