The Brant Flour Mills were initially operated in the early 1800s. The first mill structure was situated next to McKenzie Creek. A big mill pond was produced by building a dam. The water that had been dammed was used to operate a horizontal water wheel, which in turn powered the milling operation.
The Smith family purchased the flour mill in 1897, and they ran the old mill until 1976 when a brand-new all-electric mill began operating. Today the Storjohann Family owns the mill and it is operated by Volker Storjohann. The company has been supplying grains for spirits to local distilleries and malters for years. One of its collaborations is with Dillon's, where they supply them with pre-ground rye and rye malt for their amazing rye-based beverages.
