Company Story

For more than 113 years, Cawoods (Fishcurers) Ltd. has processed dried, salted fish. The company, which was initially established in Hull and later had plants in both cities, eventually concentrated all of its production activities into one location in Grimsby at the beginning of 2002.

The product of salted fish has been around for generations. The ancient Vikings air-dried white fish species, while Mediterranean peoples have always salted fish. In both cases, the items were preserved by removing moisture that would otherwise be accessible to promote bacterial decay. In the end, the two procedures combined to create a special product with a lengthy shelf life under ambient settings, flavor enhancement from the salt, and a pleasant meaty texture from the drying procedure.
