Flying Disc Ranch is a tropical desert with a forest of date palms and citrus of all kinds growing in the understory. Compost, water, and living mulch are added to the soil to make the most of it. In order to boost fertility, we make the most of the sun and aerate the water.
Robert purchased his property — desert land that he cleared, watered, and planted with more than 1,200 palms — in 1979. Flying Circle Farm has turned into a tropical rainforest-type biological system, host to an abundance of untamed life. Citrus, aloe vera, pomegranates, and figs are planted alongside a variety of date palm varieties. Since dates need moisture, Robert and his team create a "green oasis" with water, compost, mulch, and a Bermuda grass cover crop that grows year-round because the Coachella Valley is part of the great Mojave Desert. Permaculture utilizes strategies from many cultivating customs. It's called "observation, adaptation, and accident" by Robert. His ranch is "100% Permaculture," according to him.
