François Léger grew up on a farm in France and wanted to continue his family's proud agricultural heritage. He studied agriculture and has worked in the beef industry in France, Australia, South America and the USA for over 17 years. In 2004, he acquired a processing and grinding facility in Augusta, Georgia, which he named FPL Foods, Inc., after the initials of his name, François Paul, and his leger.

In 2011, François acquired pasture and farmland in central Georgia as his business grew. Staying true to his French roots, he named his farm Chatel Farm. François immediately set to work building a cattle feeding and livestock business to rival anything in the South East. His goal was to raise quality cattle in the southeastern United States and prove that they could be processed for beef production. and began growing corn and other forage crops as a feed source for his herd.Today, Chatel Farms has Angus and Akaushi (Wagyu), pedigreed cattle, and pedigrees to support FPL Food's beef brands. It has a total herd of over 8,000 animals, including breeding livestock and beef cattle.
