After completing his MBA in agribusiness, Don Burton left his native California to work at Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. and The H.J. Heinz Company. But he told his brothers to call him if he needed marketing help. Don and Manuel This call came late in the summer of 2002 when Brent Burton was talking to his neighbor Joe Gambini. Mr. Gambini wanted to make sure the Burtons were interested in taking over control of the walnut shelling and packing operations. Brent called Don to see if he'd be interested in abandoning his packaged goods marketing career to lead a potential new venture.
After touring the facility and learning about the opportunities from his brother and Mr. Gambini, Don and his wife Jean decided to move back to California from the East Coast and start the family's new business, Gold River Orchards. An employee sorting walnuts, Don and his family soon realized that preserving the Burton family legacy with uncompromising quality was the company's top priority. Rest assured that Gold River Orchards walnut processing goals meet or exceed the highest industry standards of excellence.
