HIK Abalone Farm was established in 1997, as one of the largest and most well-recognized abalone farms in South Africa. It owns a hatchery that is divided into four highly specialized departments; broodstock, larvae, settlement, and weaning. It has a grow-out area that currently supports over 5 M individual animals, with collective biomass of approximately 160 MT.
Its current production output ranges between 2,5 and 3 M spat annually, 140-150 MT/year. It is an industry leader in conducting and facilitating research on abalone and other species. It is ASC certified.
