The invention of the first industrially produced stock cube, dubbed "Brodox," in 1935 marked the beginning of the Hügli story. The founder of the business, Beat Stoffel, chose the name Hügli to honor Otto Hügli, the inventor of the stock cube. This developer went on to become the company's first managing director, based in Arbon, Switzerland, on Lake Constance.
Hügli's direction was clear a year later. After that, the business concentrated on the production of ready-made sauces, bouillons, condiments, and soups. Hügli focused its product sales on catering and food industry large-scale customers. As a result, the business initially concentrated on two segments of the food industry that are currently considered "trendy":products for convenience food and the food service industry. The business moved from Arbon to Steinach in 1974, where it still maintains its headquarters.
A 1959 establishment of a Hügli subsidiary in Hard, Austria, marked the company's first venture abroad. Hügli took over the production facility of Radolf-Werke in Radolfzell, Germany, shortly thereafter, in 1964.Activities in Radolfzell were slowly extended from 1990 on. The plant employs 700 people and is the Hügli Group's largest and most advanced production facility. It mostly makes desserts, ready-to-eat meals, and dried mixed goods like soups, sauces, and condiments.
