The national benchmark for bitter hop varieties is the hop variety Polesskyi. The clone selection from the well-known English variety Northern Brewer chose it in 1977. The fruit is medium-ripening, fragrant, and only somewhat bitter. can be utilized at all brewing stages. The hop cones have a stable hoppy aroma.
The culture of hop in Ukraine is cultivated from second half of 19 century when migrants from Chechia in 1866 had planted the first productional hop gardens in the Volynsk province. Fertile chernozem soils of Ukraine, in conditions of a sufficient moistening, have appeared very favorable for cultivation of hop and that influenced its excellent technological qualities.
