The first winery in Santa Barbara County since Prohibition is opened in 1962 by Pierre Lafond. Before a second winery opened, it would be more than ten years; currently, there are more than 100.
1964 The Santa Barbara Winery relocates to its current location, two blocks from the shore, at Yanonali and Anacapa streets in downtown Santa Barbara.
1965 saw the 100-acre planting of the county's first vineyard following Prohibition. Demattei and Nielson. There are currently over 20,000 acres.
At the westernmost point of the Santa Ynez Valley's Santa Rita Hills, 65 acres of Lafond Vineyards were planted in 1971.
Bruce McGuire is appointed winemaker in 1981.
1996 Lafond Vineyards buys more land across the river and plants 30 acres with Syrah and Pinot Noir.
1998 The new Lafond's construction begins.
