As a farmer's son, he was experimenting with herbs in the Bavarian hinterland when he considered turning his passion into his profession. He biked the first wild herbs to pharmacies, drug stores, hospitals, and health food stores. He soon started growing his own herbs in his fields. In 1930, 28-year-old Martin Bauer founded what would become a multinational herb processing plant. Soon he began not only growing herbs but also buying and processing them.
