Amy and Brian Tennis started New Mission Organics in 2005. In 2008, they planted their first acre on the Leelanau Peninsula, making them one of the first Michigan hop farmers. Since then, they have developed into a market leader in the Midwest for novel hop production, producing more than 20 varieties of hop, some of which are the first to be grown commercially in North America. In 2010, the Tennises established the Michigan Hop Alliance to process both their hops and those of farms located in northern Michigan. As the Michigan hop industry has grown, they have shared knowledge, equipment, and facilities with dozens of hop farm startups. To become one of the largest independent hop suppliers in the Midwest, The Hop Alliance has undergone numerous expansions and added a wide variety of proprietary hops to its product line.
