AQUACULTURE REQUIRES THE RIGHT CULTURE.
AQUACULTURE REQUIRES THE RIGHT CULTURE.
The increasing demand for fresh fish—mainly due to its health benefits—have put an enormous strain on wild fish stock. As a result, numerous bodies of water around the globe have been overfished and certain fish varieties are edging towards to extinction. That’s why fish-farming is much more than breeding fish. It’s about allowing the existing population of wild fish to re-generate. In short, for every grilled fish-farmed sea bream you enjoy, a wild one gets a chance at survival.

Although not immediately obvious, fish feed may also impact wild fish stock. That’s because traditionally, in aquaculture, fish feed comprised mostly other fish. At Philosofish, our fish feed combines fresh fish with a multitude of other natural ingredients. The benefit of this practice is two-fold: first, it’s easier on the environment and, second, it allows us to customize the feed in a way that naturally increases the nutritional values of our fish.

In nature, balance is everything. That's why another practice that makes a huge difference in sustainability is the intensity of farming. At Philosofish, we keep fish volume high enough to make financial sense, yet low enough so as not to endanger the environment in which the fish live and breed.
