They have been managing our farm from Zünikon and Neftenbach, our two locations, since the beginning of 2019. At both locations, standard fruit trees grow on large meadows, and up to nine different arable crops are grown on the arable land.
The "ecological balance" encompasses more than a third of the farm's surface area. These meadows are extensively cultivated without fertilization and are only later mowed. Numerous insects and small animals find food in these areas, where late flowering species can also multiply.
On the arable plots, various varieties of grain, millet, flax, and lentils are grown. They focus primarily on cultivating crops that are specifically intended for human consumption and work strictly without any external sources of nutrients. The majority of the crops are processed into bread, flour, grains, and linseed, which can then be delivered to local restaurants and shops or sold directly.
"Classic" plowing and the incorporation of the farm's cow manure into the soil are used on the heavy soils in Zünikon. As a result, yields are typically higher than in Neftenbach.
At a lower nutrient level, the soil-conserving mulch sowing method that has proven successful in recent years is being pursued further in Neftenbach. Field beans and lentils, spelled, flax, emmer, millet, rye, and other previously cultivated crops will continue to be grown.
