Our farmers deliver their unprocessed cacao beans to six collection centers throughout the region. These beans are then centrally fermented and dried, utilizing sensors that provide real-time data to optimize flavor development. The processed beans are subsequently crafted into fine chocolate bars.
Herencia Esmeraldas is committed to sustainability and transparency, aiming to demonstrate that farming can be both environmentally and socially responsible. The name "Herencia," meaning "heritage" in Spanish, reflects our dedication to preserving ancestral farming traditions and passing them on to future generations.
Our product line includes a 70% dark chocolate bar made from Ecuadorian Arriba Nacional beans, known for its vinous and wine-like flavor profile with eucalyptus and green notes. We also offer a variation that incorporates the bright sweetness of locally sourced mango, blending two Ecuadorian staples into a balanced confection.
By managing the entire production process—from cultivation to chocolate making—within Ecuador, Herencia Esmeraldas ensures quality control and promotes economic growth within the local community.

We are proud to introduce Herencia Esmeraldas, a farmer-owned chocolate initiative based in the biodiverse region of Esmeraldas, Ecuador. Born from a mission to transform the lives of smallholder cacao producers, Herencia brings together over 400 farming families who now control the full value chain — from cultivation and fermentation to chocolate production and international marketing.
