in Uzbekistan, a sharp collapse in the wholesale and retail prices of onions was recorded. For a couple of days, prices for Uzbek onions fell by an average of 35-40%. At the moment, bulk onions in Uzbekistan can be bought for less than 10 US cents per kg. Thus, wholesale prices for onions in Uzbekistan have now become quite attractive for exporters, but this does not mean at all that onions will be exported. The inability to export the onions caused the price collapse. In particular, lots of onions that were already at the border but failed to cross it are now offered for sale on the wholesale markets of Uzbekistan. Crossing the border has become much more complicated, as all countries fear the spread of the coronavirus.
