The beer agribusiness has consolidated as the tenth agro-export complex in Argentina according to the Argentine Chamber of the Beer Industry. There are about 1.5K producers and in 2019 barley, the main ingredient in beer represented 1.6% of total national exports. Shipments reached 1,029M u$, with a growth of 22.9% compared to 2018. The barley, malt, and beer complex has been the second-fastest-growing export complex in the last 15 years. In the last campaign, of the 4.1M tons harvested, 80% was exported and 20% went to the domestic market. Now a new seeding has started, 2020/21, which according to the Cereal Exchange could yield production of 3.75M tons next summer. The national production of barley malt sums up to 800K tons/year, of which 70% is exported. The destinations are mainly Latin American countries, where Argentina has become the main exporter of barley and malt.
