Giant clams in the Philippines can be found on the island of Mindanao. There are seven species of giant clams in the country, which are Tridacna Crocea, T. Maxima and T. Squamosa, T. Derasa, T. Gigas, Hippopus and H. Porcellanus. The first three varieties are the most common varieties. Recently, there has been a fall in the number of giant clams in the region. The locals have been exploiting the resource as they use the product for shell craft or business. The locals also gather the clams for the sustenance of the coastal villages.
