Iran accounts for about 90% of the world's global production output. The country is reported to increase its saffron exports by 10% during the last year amid US sanctions. Iranian exporters had to find ways of tackling the sanctions by using trade barter methods, exchanging various agricultural goods such as olive oil for the Iranian saffron. The main markets for the Iranian saffron are China and Spain.
