There is a new trend happening in Indonesia where jackfruits suppliers and manufacturers are trying to diversify their business from focusing solely on selling fresh jackfruits into producing original or value-added jackfruit chips.
This trend is driven by the high cost that the suppliers have to bear when shipping the fresh jackfruit overseas, as they would need to employ a semi-refrigerated container unit to extend the shelflife of the fruit during the shipment. Moreover, the national suppliers state that jackfruit chips are starting to get more attention and higher demand by overseas consumers in importing countries such as Japan and Taiwan. Also, selling jackfruits in the form of value-added jackfruit chips is also proven to be more financially lucrative as this commodity can be sold at a higher price and have a much longer shelf life compared to fresh jackfruits.
