Tight controls to avoid diseases from imported bitter beans

The bitter bean, which is to be imported from neighboring countries, must obtain an import license and a certificate of origin before it is shipped to Malaysia.
The Malaysian Ministry of Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) has confirmed that the prevention of bitter bean infestation serves to control the introduction of pests and diseases that could harm the domestic agricultural industry if not properly controlled.
