(Icheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Woo-seong = The first rice transplanting event in the nation was held in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. Icheon City and the local agricultural cooperative held the rice transplanting event on the afternoon of the 10th in a 990 square meter greenhouse paddy field in Anpyeong 3-ri, Ho Law Myeon. The rice variety used is the domestically produced early-maturing 'Jinbuolbyeo', with an expected harvest of about 240 kilograms of rice in June. The greenhouse paddy fields in this region use waste heat from a nearby large-scale incinerator to grow rice, allowing the transplanting to occur about three months earlier than in other regions of the country. Until the day before, Icheon had experienced sub-zero temperatures, but on the day of the event, the cold eased, and daytime temperatures recorded above zero degrees Celsius. gaonnuri@yna.co.kr
