Coronavirus cases are increasing in the East Java province, where the Perak Port is located, the export and import processes from that port have been affected as well. The local government has ordered the port to tighten up the inspection process of incoming and outgoing goods, including imported agricultural commodities from other countries such as pear from China and onion from India. Aside from document checking such as a phytosanitary certificate from the country of origin, the commodities must now go through a physical check by the local health authority in order to ensure their safety for direct consumption, before being cleared for further distribution.
