To cope with the high demand for wheat to produce wheat flour by the national manufacturers, the manufacturers urged that Indonesia should open up another import quota in the second half of 2020. The current stock of wheat nationally is now recorded at 1.3 MMT, which is far below the projected demand until December 2020 at around 4.5 MMT. Thus, to complement the supply of wheat from the local farmers, these manufacturers stated that at least 4 MMT of wheat needs to be imported, as it would be needed to keep up with the production of wheat flour. Aside from Australia and the USA, where the bulk of wheat in Indonesia has been imported from, the manufacturers are also exploring the possibility to source wheat from major producers in Europe such as Ukraine, as the alternative sourcing country for this commodity.
