Apricot growers in Mut, Mersin are pushing for the Turkish Grain Board to determine a minimum purchase price as it does with wheat and hazelnut to protect growers against price pressures from wholesalers.
The growers expect 120 kmt of products in a production area of 6,300 hectares and the area produces nearly 85% of Turkey's retail apricot consumption. Additionally, apricots from the area are exported to Russia and to other export markets in Europe and the Middle East. Currently, the farmgate prices are around 0.8 - 1.1 USD per kg in the district.
