Fresh vegetable prices are quite fluctuating upwards and downwards at the moment however, the biggest increase has been recorded in fresh fruit prices especially in citrus products.
Bulgarians have turned citrus fruits, especially to lemon, for the rich Vitamin C content and this caused lemon prices to spike upwards. The same goes for ginger and Bulgarians started purchasing ginger in bigger quantities and ginger prices have spiked by 100% nationwide and even in some regions such as Gabrovo, Blagoevgrad, Sofia, and Shumen ginger prices increase by more than 200% reaching as high as 245%. Ginger price in wholesale markets at the beginning of March was around 3,25 €/kg whereas at the beginning of April the price range at the same wholesale markets is around 7-8 €/kg.
The price hikes in lemon and ginger are also caused due to interruptions in the logistics system and slow functioning of customs at borders.
