Brazil has never been one of the main players in the international tomato market, despite being among the largest producers ans tomato processors in the world, generally ranked between 5th and 8th. Brazil often processes more tomatoes than traditional markets like Portugal, Greece, Tunisia, Turkey, Iran and Chile. But, unlike other players, 99% of Brazilian production is destined for its own domestic market. The reason is that the tomato production pole was developed very far away from the coast. Hoerver, the largest Brazilian tomato producer, Trebeschi, announces investments in a new tomato production area near the northeast coast of Brazil, a region that is already an export hub for Brazilian melons, watermelons and peppers, which may give Brazil the opportunity to finally participate in the international battle fields.
