Dengue fever outbreak in the West Java province since early last week has caused a sudden rise in demand for guava by the consumers in this province. In the past week, the demand for guava in several regions in this province was recorded at 2 MT/day, a sharp increase from 800 Kg/day in the entirety of May and the first two weeks of June 2020. Traditionally, guava has been widely consumed in Indonesia to treat low platelets level in the red blood cells that can get compromised by dengue fever and to speed up recovery, as this fruit is rich with vitamins and necessary minerals. As the case of dengue fever is expected to go up slightly as this province is in the transition between rainy season to summer, the demand for guava in the coming week is expected to follow suit.
