Aside from including the Halal certification that is issued by the Association of Islamic Scholar of Indonesia, food exporters must now also include a secondary Halal certification by a European governing body in order to distribute their products in the Netherlands. For shrimp cracker, for example, aside from the Kosher certificate that is widely accepted by the European Union countries, an exporter can also choose to have a certification by the local Islamic Halal Certification Agency in the Netherlands such as the Halal Quality Control (HQC) or the Total Quality Halal Correct (TQHC). This certification is intended to ensure that the food products imported by the buyers in the Netherlands have met the halal standard that is implemented in Europe that often differs from the one that is implemented in the Asian countries, in order to accommodate the need of the Muslim population in the Netherlands.
