The production area of peas in Hungary is continuously decreasing in the recent years, because the farmers don't find the farm gate price high enough to provide a decent profit above the production costs. The Farmer Association representing the producers claims that these conditions don't motivate the farmers to invest into technological developments that could improve the yield in the future. The decrease of pea yield affects the processing industry in a negative way as well, as the in off-season of sweet corn processing they usually tie down their capacities to process peas.
