Uganda is expected to continue strengthening its trade ties with the US, which is a major market for the export of Ugandan agricultural products. The two countries have agreed to hold their first US-Uganda International Trade Summit and Exhibition in Chicago on December 16-17, 2022, officiated by the Ugandan President. Because Uganda falls under the African Growth and Development Act, goods from designated Sub-Saharan African countries can enter the US market duty-free. Uganda exported USD 71.6M to the United States in the 2020 FY, with the top three products being coffee at USD 41.4M, casein at USD 6.9M, and vanilla at 4.9M. The summit is expected to improve this trade as stakeholders from both the public and private sectors will have a chance to interact and deliberate on ways of enhancing trade ties.
