Portugal and Brazil Agricultural Ministers announce lifting of embargo on dairy products from the Azores

On October 12, the governments of Brazil and Portugal announced that they would lift the embargo on dairy products from the Azores, which in was force since 2015. During the bilateral meeting in Lisbon, issues that hindered the proposal of new national companies for the export of dairy products to Brazil were also overcome.

The Portuguese Minister of Agriculture, Maria do Céu Antunes stressed that “at this moment of extreme complexity, it is essential for everyone working in the supply chain to discuss themes of opportunities and growth, as well as innovation and resilience in the agricultural and agrifood sector. I believe that this dialogue will strengthen our historical cooperation, be it in the technical field and in the transfer of knowledge, or in the strengthening of our commercial relations."
“It should also be taken into consideration that Portugal supported the E.U. – MERCOSUR agreement, which should be concluded soon.”

As consequence the Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply stressed the need for a broader synergy between Brazil and Portugal, as well as a stronger linkages with Portuguese-speaking countries, stating "as sister countries we can have stronger and closer trade relations".
